Website Development Process
A clear process keeps your website project moving smoothly. At Xclaim Agency, we guide each project through design, content, programming, and final quality control so you always know what stage your site is in and what comes next.
Your feedback is part of the process. We’ll handle the design and development work, while using your goals, ideas, content, and input to create a website that represents your business clearly and professionally.
The Four Development Phases
Every web project moves through four primary phases:
Creative Design Phase
Once we receive your signed contract, we begin creating your custom home page design concept.
In most cases, your initial design concept is ready within 3 to 5 business days. You’ll review the design and provide feedback. We’ll make revisions as needed until you are comfortable with the direction.
This review and approval process typically takes 1 to 7 days, depending on the amount and speed of feedback.
Once you approve the home page concept, we’ll ask you to sign a Preview Acceptance Agreement. This gives us approval to move forward with the internal pages of your website based on the approved design direction.
Internal page design usually takes 3 to 5 business days.
Each internal page will follow the approved design style while still having its own page title, visual cues, and custom header treatment when appropriate. This helps visitors quickly understand where they are on the site and gives each page a more polished, personalized feel.
Content Development Phase
After the internal page layouts are created, we move into content development.
This phase usually takes 5 to 10 days, depending on the amount of content needed and how quickly feedback is provided.
If you already have an existing website, the most efficient approach is often to move your current content into the new design first. This allows you to review the copy in context and decide what should stay, change, expand, or be removed.
During this phase, we refine page content, organize information, and make sure the site communicates clearly to your visitors.
Content Development Phase
Programming Development Phase
Once the design and content phases are complete, we begin adding any required website functionality.
This may include features such as:
Custom programming modules
During the design and content phases, you’ll be able to view progress through a private online preview link. Programming work is different. Much of it happens behind the scenes, so there may be less to visually review until the functionality is close to complete.
Programming timelines vary based on the number and complexity of the features being built. This phase can take 1 to 4 weeks for more involved functionality.
Once the programming work is complete, the features are brought online for testing and final review.
Final Quality Control
After the design, content, and programming work is complete, we perform a full quality control review of the website.
During Final QC, we check for:
It is more efficient to complete these final adjustments together near the end of the project, rather than trying to catch every small item during active development.
Final QC typically takes 3 to 5 business days.
Once the website passes Final QC, we’ll ask you to complete a final review. At that point, we confirm that the approved features and contracted work have been completed.
After final approval, your website can usually go live within 24 hours, based on your preferred launch timing.
Typical Project Timelines
Every project is different. Timelines can be shorter or longer depending on the size of the website, the complexity of the functionality, and how quickly feedback and content are provided.
